1946 star vehicle for Bette Davis directed by Irving Rapper. Davis plays European immigrant who escaped to the war to America where she became the student and lover of famed composer Alexander Hollenius (Claude Rains). It all become highly dramatic when her former boyfriend, a talented musician, Karel Novak (Paul Henreid) who she thought had been killed, arrives onto the scene. Davis, still in love with Novak, marries him without telling Hollenius. Never one to be betrayed, Hollenius crashed the wedding party, providing Claude Rains and Davis a great opportunity to show off. Great scene.

  • When Bette says, "Music please," (0:59) the band should have begun Nine Inch Nails' "Closer"... Claude basically moves to that song's cadence.

  • @BarnabasFrid That would be interesting. If I get the chance, maybe I'll try cutting the piece to "Closer".

  • @oakjackson I haven't the foggiest clue how to upload my disc to my laptop; or I'd make it for you. Depeche Mode's "In Your Room" works really well when Bette kneels at Claude's feet ("Your favorite slave") after the glass breaking bit.
