There was only one...JC was the best, and I respect the rest...snakey and shakey..tingles me down to my toenails when he hits that vibrato...the closest thing to him is Syl sylvain or Miika Tenkula of Sentenced.

Incredibly, no one has mentioned that John Cippolina (Quicksilver Messenger Service) provided the blazing guitar work. John C. was an amazing, largely unrecognized talent. Listen to the guitar work.
JC, mahalo, requiescat in pace.

My favorite version of this song was by the Cryan' Shames. It really rocks and gets you charged up . Everybody check it out!

I miss Billy. I learned a whole lot from him. I also did a lot of the songs he wrote. He's still in Georgia, I think.

Me, I remember Dino Valente singing on the steps, in down town Sausolito (Marin Co., California), for free, early 60s .....
.....yep, thems was the days!

@spacepatrolman The searchers had a song called hey joe on a live album but its not the same song
When I played drums for Billy in the mid 60's he did Hey Joe a little more folk-rock then this version. Billy doing his own show was a little more "bluesy-folk-rock". He also did some straight ahead folk balads. He also played great harmonica. Rik Elswit, who went on to Dr. Hook, played some guitar with Billy at that time. All in all, it was a great time to be playing music!

I met Nick Gravenites last month in Sonora's Blues Festival...nice guy with a lot of history to reveal to me and in his workshop. He has been their since the San Francisco Sixties started.
