As the most dispensible element in the employment chain, Temps are the first to be hit by the crisis.
German industry relied on short-term staff, and there are still some 700,000 temporary workers in Germany. For many, this is the way out of unemployment, three-quarters of the Temps had no job before. The effects of the financial crisis are under pressure: Dekra is one of about 21,000 agencies providing temporary staff for all kinds of work. Bickel Logistics in Trier has hired truck drivers fom Dekra. But as freight volume contracts, there is less work for Temps. By the end of this year, the firm will probably end all of their contracts. How do the temporary workers feel? What do the agencies expect? Mabel Gundlach reports from Trier and Stuttgart.
