In a cramped enclosure at the Manila Zoo lives an Asian elephant named Mali. Born in Sri Lanka in 1974, Mali was only 3-years-old when she was ripped from her home and family and shipped to the zoo. Mali needs to be retired to a sanctuary where she can live out the rest of her life in comfort and peace. Free Mali NOW!

Thank you for answering the questions that you could, I hope that I didn't offend or annoy you. I believe that although I may not agree to everything PeTA does, I believe you guys are pretty legit. So, yeah. I guess I am glad this world has PeTA. Even though I don't agree with a lot of things like Pokemon and Mario hate... I understand where you guys are coming from though! Rock on PeTA!

Please know that the two PETA U.S. staff members were cleared of all other charges, including cruelty to animals. Since these charges were first made, PETA U.S. has maintained that they were politically motivated by anti-animal groups with connections to local dogfighting, dog-breeding, animal agriculture, and hunting interests. Among these is an organization described in The New York Times as a ‘front-group’ for wealthy industries that are threatened by bringing about animal welfare reform.

We regret that the two PETA U.S. staff members on trial were convicted of littering for disposing of animal bodies in a dumpster. PETA U.S.’ policy requires that euthanized animals be cremated, not disposed of in this way. We regret any concern or confusion about their work that this may have caused you.

One source is world renowned veterinarian Dr Henry Richardson who flew to Manila to examine Mali. You can view his reports on our PETA Asia Pacific blog, or just email us and we can send them to you. PETA also has the backing of over a dozen world-renowned elephant experts who agree that Mali’s mental and physical health are at risk if she continues to live at the zoo, and that transferring would be the kindest thing for her welfare.

sick?) I also know that, from that source, that shelter doesn't even have the space to house all the animals the Virginian Shelter takes in! Also that it does not meet its own published guidelines for operating a humane animal shelter.n 2007, two PETA employees were tried for animal cruelty and littering in North Carolina after there were caught in a late night stakeout dumping the bodies of dead dogs and cats in a dumpster. A dumpster!? Ahem, later, in the trial evidence was presented that

Thank you so much for the explanations, I am glad so far that this has not turned into a "shouting war".I have just sent a message to petakillsanimal(dot)com, and I am now awaiting their response. Really, I don't expect you to know everything that is going on @ PeTA like who diagnosed Mali, etc. But if you do know I would appreciate the answer to that question. I still know that the Virginia Animal Shelter has an extremely high euthanasia rate ( Are 89.4% of the animals you euthanize really that

In other words, they accept the majority of these animals specifically to provide them with a peaceful release through euthanasia, often by request of their owners (PETA offers this service at no cost). PETA U.S. is proud to be a "shelter of last resort," where animals who have no place to go or who are unwanted or suffering are welcomed with love and open arms. I hope that helps explain things to you further!

It is PETA U.S.’ policy that the vast majority of animals they accept are only those who are in terrible shape or unadoptable for some reason, such as behavioral problems, injury, sickness, or old age. PETA US does not run a traditional adoption facility—they refer most adoptable animals to local shelters with high public traffic—but they have managed to place hundreds of animals in excellent, lifelong homes, including their own.
