Fox News' Glen Beck Compares Detroit To Hiroshima, Angers Detroiters

It may not surprise Detroiters to hear Glenn Beck is not a big fan of the Motor City. But did he take his political agenda too far Monday night when he compared Detroit to Hiroshima?

"Bad policies and union deals helped rot this city from the core," Beck said on his program.

The conservative pundit argued Hiroshima was able to rebuild after being bombed because its people embraced capitalism. He asserted Detroit was failing because of progressive politics, powerful unions and the bailout of the auto companies.

"One city embraced the free market system and the entrepreneurial spirit, the other embraced progressive policies corrupt government and unions. And companies that weren't allowed to fail -- and they should have failed because they stunk on ice," Beck said.

Sure Beck has a right to his opinion, but did he have all of the facts?

"Oh you can blame Ford and GM -- their bad corporate policies. And those policies because of the progressives -- weren't allowed to reset. Nobody allowed them to fail."

Only Ford never took a government rescue package. And it was Republican President George Bush who doled out the first round of bailout money to the autos -- and the banks.

It's Detroit, Michigan, but take a look at Detroit today. Yeah - Detroit is coming back - but who is to blame for how it got this way....No Liberal can deny the fact - Detroit has been run for Democrats for FIFTY YEARS !

Thirty years of corruption from Democrat Coleman Young - Former Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick in Jail (God - how did he get reelected?)- corrupt school board - Corrupt City Commision. How will Detroit recover with all of this negative publicity. Have you ever been there? Detroit, like the commercial has been to hell and back...but the United States would not be the most powerful nation in the world if it wasn't for Detroit. Detroit will recover. And Michigan is a beautiful state. That my friend is a fact because I live here and I have seen it.
