  • I belatedly join the wig controversy - the periwig worn by the gentleman musician was most certainly worn in Bach's lifetime. For an example, look up "Portrait of Phillipe de Courcillon". The artist was Hyacinth Rigaud, and the subject was painted in 1702. This style of wig fell out of favor after the death of King Louis XIV of France in 1715, but continued to be worn by lawyers and doctors.

  • No, you are wrong, my friend.

  • You are wrong my friend

  • Very very nice!, its bwv 1029...

  • Those wigs are of a type that was fashionable BEFORE Bach was born. LOL

  • I've seen Baroque paintings of women playing various instruments in private chamber music.

There were famous female opera singers in Bach's time, e.g., Faustina Bordoni.

And Bach's 2nd wife, Anna Magdalena, was a singer at the court in Coethen, where she received an annual salary greater than that of any other court functionaries except the chamber councilor, the court minister, and the capellmeister (who was Bach himself).

  • Somehow I don't think there were women in the orchestras, etc, in Bach's time. But the gals here are dressed the part for sure. Very good!

  • Very baroque.
