This woodpecker decided he didn't make enough noise drumming on trees, and used a metal electricity pole instead!

  • If anyone cares, I think this is a yellow-bellied sapsucker. We don't see many, just saw my first one a few days ago.

  • This is a great spotted woodpecker, not a sapsucker. They are similar size and shape but we don't get sapsuckers in Europe!

  • The woodpecker knows exactly what he is doing...he drills on wood to find food, make a nest hole, or simply to make a noise in order to proclaim his territory. Drilling on metal makes a much louder noise...(It's humans who have bird brains, not our feathered friends!)

  • he is actually drumming on the pole to attract a mate

  • @silverbulletgirl29 You could have just given it bugs. They trick you into buying all this expensive food that you don't really need

  • @2bluwings The yellow-bellied sapsucker had a more red on the top of its head and under its chin. I raised one up and released it over Xmas break. I was so tired too b/c it was a lot of work and money to buy 'specialized' food for him and I had to feed him accordingly w/ a varied diet and wean him on solid food, phew! I'm pooped.

  • damn. if a woodpecker could give head, it'll make these silly human hoes look silly

  • there annoying as fuck, and they slam heads against wood but they are really fast..christ

  • He doesn't resemble Norman Bates in the least.

  • Its interesting that the Great Spotted Woodpecker is doing exactly what I have seen Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers do. Take advantage of a unique surface to make more noise than he normally could by drumming on wood. Nice to see a species I have never seen before!

  • We had one drumming on top of the transformer on the pole.... I swear he was sounding the war drum!

  • is it a downey?

  • its calling sign hes saying " calling all females.. i;m ready for some action " lol nah but it is funny to watch when theres a large ass wooden pole there and he decides to drum on the metal lol

  • *insert obligatory Wo0dy Wo0dpecker laugh* XD

Unless it IS a sapsucker. Then insert Sappy Sapsucker laugh.

    }:-P
