Josef Vallaster was in charge of the third camp at the Sobibór death camp. After aiding in the murder tens of thousands of people, he was killed during the prisoner uprising of 14 October 1943.
Sixty five years later to the day, his son Klaus went to Sobibór and spoke to one of the former prisoners who managed to escape.

This must have been an incredibly difficult interview for Vallaster's son. I cannot imagine how I would feel if someone revealed such things to me about my own father.

Those who were part of the organization and those who escaped (and did not) are heroes. It is really difficult to explain, but they have inspired me to endure any problems I face. Nothing can be compared to what they experienced, my petty problems pale by comparison. I am so sorry for their suffering, but I am proud of their strength!
