The Allegro Youth Orchestra has embarked on a number of innovative projects that join this classical string orchestra with jazz and rock artists. While not abandoning their classical roots, the orchestra is discovering that it enhances their performance through these collaborative efforts. Noted for their mature sound, the Allegro Youth Orchestra has become a driving force in arts education in the Hudson Valley. This clip features Allegro with the rock group Pan.a.ce.a. The orchestral parts are arranged by Allegro's artistic director Viktoras Prizgintas.

The founder and current director is Mr. Prizgintas. "I truly believe that bringing the classically trained student into the world of popular culture has its benefits," he explains.. "Ultimately, you have only two forms of music; good and bad. Understanding the basic elements, using them creatively, and presenting them in a dynamic fashion will infuse more innovation and energy into the process." It is there, at each rehearsal, that you begin to witness and experience the true process of creating music with the Allegro Youth Orchestra.

The orchestra only rehearses for only one hour a week, but these talented students are taught early the need to arrive prepared and ready to work. "Students receive assignments in which they are required to record their parts on tape. The tapes are collected and I write my comments on their music sheets before I return them. Rhythmic errors and issues with dynamics tend to focus my attention when I listen to the tapes, but general music comments are also included in the review," according to Prizigntas. "What is really going on through the taped evaluation process is showing students how to prepare for rehearsals." Indeed, anyone who walks behind the orchestra while they rehearse will see comments in various felt tip colored markers. Each color represents a different time the music was assigned and evaluated.

  • woah, awesome!! and go Mr. P and ANNA!!! XD!!

  • I have subscribed to your channel and enjoy the music very much. I appreciate the innovative style and think it's quite a brilliant way to appeal to your younger students in a way that keeps current with they're culture. I'm quite certain they appreciate it even more than I.

Thank You once again. BTW when I was playing this particular song my young grandson aged 8 also expressed a desire to play in such a band. I guess that means I should arrange for him to take lessons...lol

  • Thank you very much for your supportive comments. The Allegro Orchestra is comprised of students from 9-16. You can view our many postings of classical, popular, rock, jazz and patriotic selections by simply typing "Allegro Orchestra" in YouTube's search box. Thanks again for your comments and all of us in Allegro hope to hear from you again.

  • Kudo's to the conductor for choosing such an innovative method for keeping his students exited and interested in the classical arts. Well done and I wish to hear more. Thanks for posting...

  • I've listened to various rock titles that the Allegro Orchestra has posted -- all exceptional -- but this one is my favorite. The way the group creates its opening sound from the rhythm section and continues to punctuate and highlight the score throughout -- pure inspiration. Keep up the great work!

  • Innovative and exciting ... well done ALLEGRO and Mr P!

  • I love this young orchestra as they are so diversified and play cutting edge music. I was dancing in my seat! PJ
