The SOS Project has been running for 3 years and has worked with 177 clients. It was developed by Junior Smart, an ex-offender who developed a vocation for mentoring other ex-offenders in order to stay out of prison and turn their lives around. It now employs 5 ex-offenders who mentor and support some of the hardest to reach young people leaving prison.
The SOS Project is a project of the St Giles Trust, a charity which aims to reduce crime and social exclusion. The organisation has been operational since 1962 and helps around 15,000 people a year. Their work harnesses the skills and experience of prisoners and ex-offenders who provide peer-led services which break the cycle of offending - supporting people from social exclusion towards positive and sustainable futures.
