Goldfish Pond

http://www.nitasnest.homestead.com This is a 90 gallon pre-formed pond with 9 or 10 fish. They winter in the house and go out in the spring. Works out well and I love the sound of the splashing water.

I also have a kidney shape 90 gallon pond with a fountain. we have used it now for about 5 years. I have to clean it about every 2 weeks and have a filter on the intake of the pump which I replace quite often. I still get dark algae water. there has to be a better system for a filter to be used to keep algae down. there are additives that are suppose to be safe for the fish but gets expensive over time. any ideals.???

If it's directly in the sun you're going to get more algae anyway. We've put lilacs on the back side which blocks the full sun at least in the morning. I think it helps. So perhaps you could do some creative planting?

I love yuour little pond!Looks great! I want one,too. But how do you keep the water clean? I heard small ponds get dirty in no time....do you use any filter system?

Thank you. Yes, it has a foam filter on the intake side of the pump. The water goes through the foam filter and then exits as the fountain, basically. Pretty simple but works. We hose off the foam every couple weeks in the summer, and we only get the big chunks so plenty of good bacteria remains. It stays pretty clean. I love the sound of the water. :)

Smaller ponds get dirtier quicker, because the smaller area of water takes a smaller amount of dirt or other things to make it messy. And also it takes less energy from the sun to heat smaller ponds. So in summer when the sun heats the water, algea will thrive and dominate the pond. UV starilizers and clarifiers work, best get a bio-filter with a built in uv unit.

What I think sucks is the water hyacinth is illeagle in most southern states. Like I live in Texas and possesion of water hyacinth is illeagle becauser it's considered a, "weed". The same is with the water lettus. It's illeagle too.

Add some more plants to your pond. I have hyacinth (floaters) and anacharis (underwater oxygenators) and my pond stays clear all year long! My goldfish are healthy and I use NO chemicals!

I recomened getting a tetra mini uv  steralizer! It keeps your water free of algae and keeps the water crystal clear year round!

Those pvc ponds by Becket corp (think thats the maker) are actually well made they last years
