Ants Macabre (Schmid/Saint Saens)

As an 11 yr. old boy, the sight of a black ant carrying the corpse of his colleague across the July-hot sidewalk in my backyard fascinated me. I followed him into the grass as he danced between the towering blades of grass to his home on the hill, where he and his load descended into the dark hole.

This composition is inspired by Saint Saens "Dance Macabre".
