Civil war was raging in Spain from 1936 to 1939. To protect their children from violence many families sent their sons and daughters to safer places. In Belgium solidarity actions were set up. Many families from the Flemish city Ghent took more than two hundred children into their houses. In the early post-war years, when Franco came into power, some children returned to Spain. Others remained in Belgium to make a new start.
Seventy years later, filmmakers Brecht Vanmeirhaeghe and Fabio Wuytack join forces and portray 5 Belgian Niños de la Guerra in a poetical evocation of past and present. Existing records were fused with their new film material and accompanied with music by composer Dick Van der Harst.
Los Niños de la Guerra was screened as part of a multimedial presentation with orchestral accompaniment performed by composer Dick Van der Harst.
