An animated overview of Adenoviruses. Adenoviruses are non-enveloped icosahedral capsid particles. The capsid is built from 252 individual capsomer units. 12 fibrous penton fibers extend from apical capsomers and mediate host attachment, which are easily detached during preparation for electron microscopy. Adenoviruses cause mild diseases that include conjunctivitis and respiratory illness.
During preparation for electron microscopy, penton fibers may separate from the apical capsomers. Adenoviruses do not have envelopes, and as a consequence, after they assemble in the cells of the infected individual, the host cell must be sacrificed (lysed) in order for the nucleocapsids to be disseminated and continue their replicative cycle.
Nice video! Thx.
BTW, what's the title of the song in the video?
