Knopfler really sings from his heart as this country means a lot to him..
-
The sound of this tracks takes in dark places... The sound of youth,of being scared, the feelin' of war. It's great!

@TheEzekiel38 what a nonsense talking!! this typical anti-war, protest song, that's it!
-
@techydude Indeed, I think this was the first or second concert of the tour, Sydney April, 1986 was the last. Here MK's vocals sounded even a little nervous.
-
@TheEzekiel38 Well I read somewhere he was actually talking about some guerilla in Perou... Maybe he was refering to both events... Adapting the old testament to the guerilla...

'I'm a soldier of freedom in the army of the man'

The song is the Old Testament book of Joshua taking the Israelites across the river Jordan and the Lord blessing them by conquering all the inhabitants of the land. Not that God was cruel but he wanted His people to remain pure (Jewish). The people obviously did not remain faithful hence Israel has never experienced peace.
I had the full tv program on video but don't know where it is. It was a Channel 4 production from 1985/86 and followed the group around their tour of Israel.
