Eddie Daniels brings you into the classroom for a session on jazzing up "Somewhere Over The Rainbow." As part of the Backun Musical Video Series, we asked Eddie to discuss how he works with students to improve their understanding of jazz clarinet. Always entertaining, always insightful, Eddie is truly one of a kind.

This is the second video that BMS is posting as part of its new social media program. Stay tuned to learn more about Backun products and the artists who play them.

  • ...Not entirely sure why there's lab equipment in the background...such as a microscope

  • @TheJosephus11 Great question! Morrie and the staff use these microscopes and measuring devices to inspect Clarinets and other instruments. The microscopes help with the review of bores and toneholes, so that we can find small cracks and imperfections... and fix them!

  • this man shit's talent

  • @Omnicron4735 - AMEN!!!

  • Eddie is so down to earth and real. Thats what I can see. It's entertaining to see he has such a good sense of humour in this video :-D Eddie is truly an amazing Musician!

  • "How do I play jazz if I'm a classical player? What should I do?" 1. Really learn your instrument 2. Purchase and listen to recordings of great jazz players 3. Transcribe (on paper or by ear) and memorize their solos 4. Analyze the solos so you know what the soloist is playing against certain chords 5. Learn these bits of jazz language 6. Learn basic jazz harmonies by memorizing tunes/chordal patterns 7. Practice so you can apply what you learn with your own unique voice
