Hi, the SY77 is actually an FM synthesizer, plus sample synthesis (but here samples can also modulate the FM operators). This keyboard is the direct discendent of the Yamaha DX7. The OPL3 FM chip found in the Sound Blaster cards is derived from this line of synthesizers, and it's also made by Yamaha. Newer sound cards generally use sample (wavetable) synthesys only, so no FM stuff on newer cards unfortunately :-(. I find those today's audio card samples so boring...

I found a "Best of DX" floppy disk with my school's SY77. It's such a fun disk! Every patch sounds like it's right off of an 80's fire safety instructional video, but in a VERY good way.

Very nice improvs, my friend. I still keep my Yamaha V 50 for the FM sounds.

AWESOME UNDERRATED SYNTH. Ive owned one for 10 years. When you learn how to use it. It can produce incredible sounds from analogue to DX7. With great usuable sequencer and drum samples. The music just comes naturally.

I have found several sounds, however, I cannot say exactly whether it is this sound. I make a collection to all FM-Harp free sounds. if I am ready, I can send as e-mail.

My first digital synth workstation (bought in 1990). Served me well, but, boy, is it heavy!
