A Buddhist couple have become the latest victims of a wave of deadly attacks in southern Thailand that have killed more than 3,700 people over the past six years.

Their deaths in a bomb attack at a market in Narathiwat province came ahead of a high-profile visit to the region by the Thai and Malaysian prime ministers.

Malaysia's prime minister, Najib Razak, has called for autonomy for the Muslim-majority southern provinces as a way of stopping the violence.

Al Jazeera's Wayne Hay reports from Narathiwat province.
