It's actually easier to carve if you move the rubber instead of the tool, especially on soft edges and curved lines.

you're holding the tool the wrong way, and your hand's supposed to be BEHIND your carving hand, not BEFORE it. Otherwise you'll get a nasty cut if you find a difficult spot...

You can get the rubber to carve and the carvers at Michael's stores. They are all over the USA.
