How to build your own HUGE fire snakes for fire dancing.

______________________________________________

I used 44 feet of 3/8 inch Kevlar from Home of Poi to build two massive 18 inch fire snakes. In order to keep the fire from the wicks from burning me I used size 20 steel ballchain to distance them from the nylon handles.

Use the following link to SCORE 15% off your Kevlar and other fire gear when purchased from Home of Poi. I buy my DIY fire equipment from them and Fire Mecca.

  • so you use two 11 feet long ropes to make one 18 inch snakes?

  • @Robertperson Correct. This gives me a super thick 18" snake. Thick = holds more gas = longer burn time = bigger fire.

  • can u chow a video of these in action. im a little nerotic about getting my moneys worth out of uber expensive material.

  • I would totally LOVE to! ...Except that all of my poi gear got stollen this past Easter while spinning at a park. I turned my head and someone walked off with my fire gear :(

  • 44 feet of 3/8" Kevlar Rope. My super-hot-wife's sewing scissors to cut the rope. Electrical tape to keep the cut rope from fraying and also to mark the center of the ropes. Welded steel ring to weave into the kevlar knot. Anything to grip the ends of the rope - In my video I used plumber's plyers. A ruler to make sure both wicks are the same length. Ballchain, ballchain attachments (x4), quicklinks (x2), and Poi handles. And bolt cutters to cut the ballchain.
