I live in Bourbonnais and I fish the river all the time. The river constantly changes , you really need to know when to fish. It can rise really fast after a short rainfall and can get real low during the late summer. I really like to bowfish for carp and buffalo out by Custer Park. Take 113 west from Kankakee to the boat launch by area 9. Lots of catfish too.

I'm surprised you didn't catch an carp. Those invasive fuckers spread like death. Can't even catch a decent cat nowadays on the kankakee.
