Hurtgen Forest Diorama with Battlesounds

This diorama depicts the fierce action in the Hurtgen Forest in the late autumn of 1944. The scene is based on the Battle of Schmidt when tanks of the 116th Panzer Division assisted in pushing the Americans out of the village. Schmidt was a costly battle to both sides, the Americans suffered more casualties at Schmidt than they did coming ashore at Omaha Beach on D-day. The Hurtgen is overshadowed by the more famous Battle of the Bulge, yet the forest was not cleared until February 1945. Many have felt this battle could and should have been avoided, when it was finally over, more than 33,000 American casualties had been sustained. German losses were equally severe and the hard pressed Germany Army was pushed deeper into Germany and to final surrender. I hope you enjoy this diorama, it is a tribute to the men who fought in the Hurtgen, veterans on both sides.

@patrickd7794 Hey buddy, the building is a simple birdhouse I bought at Michael's for about 5 bucks, I then bought a bag of their craft sticks and cladded the sides of it and made the trim too, Real easy project. Also buy a bag of their matchsticks and recatangles and that is how I made the door and shutters, the roof is by plastruct and you can find that at a well stocked hobby shop. Birdhouses are great to get started since you dont have to build the walls and roof..hope this helps!
