@ihateuutube I agree... Rails didn't get popular because it was particularly well written or great to work with, but rather because it was there at the right time. Well. If DHH had come around and contributed to a framework or created one two years later, we wouldn't be watching this video.

DHH owes much of his success to being in the right place at the right time with Rails. Winning the lottery with Rails is a huge contributor to the success of 37Signals. It has also allowed him to make money off of several books. Without Rails, nobody would give a crap about what David has to say about anything.

Here in Brazil we have a sort of "rhyme" that is around: "It's 99% of transpiration and 1% of inspiration" I reckon that is pretty much the same message.

@sandwichsteen I think David owes all of his success to hard work and passion. I think he made Rails because he thought it would be a useful tool for himself. He didn't really care if not everybody wanted to use it and I'm sure he still doesn't. He just built something he believed in.
