Hauppauge HD PVR
This is a great card...works straight out the box, no need to upgrade you're computer, as long as you have one of the newer ones, not one from 5 years ago, because all the encoding is already done by the product, not our computer. The downfall of this card is that it only has Component connections; therefore; limiting it's quality of the recorded footage.
Pros:
-Works right out the box
-Doesn't need an extremely powerful computer/Works for PC and Mac
-Ability to play Xbox 360 without turning on your computer(not 100% sure but it looks like it since the HD PVR has its own power adapter)
Cons:
-Component cables
-No support or future support for 1080p/Resolutions only up to 1080i
Blackmagic Intensity Pro
The next best thing, I believe this card is better than the HD PVR for many reason, first being that it is an HDMI card and HDMI is better than component. I know people will say, for youtube, there no/minimal difference in quality between these cards, but in actuality, it is better. Component cables are maxed out on what it's capable of doing; however, HDMI is still expanding. The downfall of this card is, it is an internal card, only used for Desktop computers, NO LAPTOPS. Works with both Mac and PC. You do need to have the program up and your computer running in order to see picture on your TV but that can be fixed by buying an HDMI splitter.
Pros:
-HDMI input/output (However, does straight HDMI won't work for PS3 due to HDCP but there are ways around it)
-Support for 1080p, extra note, see below in Cons
-Ability to record uncompressed as well as compressed
-Works with PC and Mac
-Option for component cables if there is no HDMI source
Cons:
-Computer and program has to be up and running to play xbox unless you use an HDMI splitter
-Need to upgrade you're computer, most likely being the hard drive...I suggest capturing to a seperate dedicated hard drive setup instead of you're main one(which is where your OS is installed), and have at LEAST 2 extra internal hard drive setup in a RAID 0 configuration or if ou can afford it, buy SSDs hard drives.
-1080p for Xbox 360 doesn't work because the highest the Blackmagic Intensity Pro is capable of doing is 1080p24 according to the website meaning 1080p @ 24 fps...Xbox 360 is 1080p @ 60 fps so you would get no picture
-Internal card only for Desktop computers
Blackmagic Intensity Shuttle
The latest and greatest! This card is awesome, it recently came out so there are still little issues here and there but soon everything will be fixed. This equipment's full ability still has not been unlocked due to USB 3.0 not being fully utilized yet because of new technology but again, in the future...this card will have it all!
Pros:
-External card
-HDMI input/output (However, does straight HDMI won't work for PS3 due to HDCP but there are ways around it)
-Support for 1080p, extra note, see below in Cons
-Option for component cables if there is no HDMI source
-Ability to record uncompressed 8 bit or 10 bit as well as compressed
Cons:
-1080p for Xbox 360 doesn't work because the highest the Blackmagic Intensity Pro is capable of doing is 1080p24 according to the website meaning 1080p @ 24 fps...Xbox 360 is 1080p @ 60 fps so you would get no picture, with that being said....Blackmagic has stated that the only reason for this is because the new technology, USB 3.0, has not been fully utilized...once it does, there WILL be support for 1080p @ 60 fps from the Shuttle...quote will be listed below.
-Requirements include either an X58 or P55 motherboard AND USB 3.0, built-in or external card...does not matter, as long as the extra card is PCI-E x4
-As of right now, there's no laptop that works with this card.
***Edit***
As far as laptops, right now, I think I found 1 laptop that should work since it meets the requirements...
HP Envy 15 as long as you get the i7 Processor
-Computer and program has to be up and running to play xbox unless you use an HDMI splitter
This is the quote from the Blackmagic Team regarding the issue with 1080p60 support and Xbox 360:
"As for 1080p60 support. It was never an advertised feature but the hardware is definitely capable of support that frame rate. However, current USB 3.0 implementation on the computers have not realised the full bandwidth promised by SuperSpeed USB 3.0 which is why we've not advertised support for 1080p60, only up to 1080p30. However, once they overcome this limitation, Intensity Shuttle will be able to support 1080p60. "

I've never personally owned an Hauppauge HD PVR, but from what I read and the specs and everything, I would pick Blackmagic Intensity Pro/Shuttle over the PVR any day. If I missed something, please excuse me.
If you need to buy a USB 3.0 card for you're desktop, here's the one I recommend:
