The new equipment for our upcoming gaming workshops has arrived! So, of course, we need to test it all out. (Yep, we're gonna need a lot of practice.)

  • Yeah, it's a game - it's for recreation. So were novels 100 years ago. Yet libraries are full of novels - are you suggesting that libraries should remove anything that's merely for recreation?

Look, some of us need to get beyond the outdated notion that games are worthless distractions. You folks who are criticizing this are living in the reactionary past, just like the folks who decried TV, radio, the automobile and even the translation of the bible into English.

  • Before you comment, read the full response from the Commission which was not included in the Auditor's report. There's a link in the video's description.

  • man, this shit takes sooo fuckin long.....thats why i hate rock band, the shit takes too fucking long to set up,

    nice video though dude!

  • Check out RockBandParts. com! We have a contest to win free Rock Band stuff!

  • uh...where did you get the info that video games reduce the attention span.. i'm not a gamer, but i do know that playing a video game does not reduce the attention span...someone playing a video game needs to pay ATTENTION to details...just ask the pilots who use simulated flight games aka VIDEO GAMES

  • And yes, I work at a library. And yes, I have had people call me and ask me how to set up these things before their kids get home so they can suprise them. You would not believe how many kids toys I have help set up over the phone with someone. :) Eh, we're supposed to automatically know everything anyway.

  • To all the people out there who are angry about this. How about you try to give someone advice about how to set up or do something on one of these things without trying it yourself. Also, try having a program with a bunch of teens or kids who know how to use it when you don't. They will eat you alive and never listen to you again. This is simply doing your job. How can I tell you, over the phone, when you call, how to set something like this up if I have never even touched one?

  • You lose, sir. Yakety Sax rules.

  • If this video hadn't contained the worst loop of music ever, it wouldn't have been bad.

  • Wow, applause, applause. I happen to work at a public library in Pennsylvania, and we have a video game room that requires constant maintenance and testing - that's my job. ;-) So there is nothing wrong with their actions - it's what needs to be done.

  • The NLC is demonstrating an important point with this video: there is no reason why learning can't be as immersive as any video game. New Media literacies and 21st Century Skills are evolving and thousands of Libraries across the world are exploring video games, digital enviroments, virtual worlds, and other MUVEs; also web 2.0 tools like Facebook and Youtube and have been for quite some time now! The power of serious play is well documented in countless academic papers and research journals.

  • I like how the lady in pink in the begin of the video looks confused, about all this stuff. Then she starts reading the manual LOL!
