  • i really want to buy that hat, anybody can help me where i can get that thanks alot..

  • @bumiperdikan10 Aloha!

Are you referring to the wig that Kampei is wearing?

Or, do you mean the eboshi that the Daimyo are wearing in Act One, the Daijo scene where all of the barons are in their court robes (known as daimon)?

Our costumes and wigs for this production came direct from Japan. Perhaps one of the on-line vendors of samurai armor might have the eboshi for sale (or access to them).

If I come across a source I will post it here.

  • @bumiperdikan10 i really appreciate for your help, i do need the wig..thanks

  • @bumiperdikan10 Aloha -- Did some checking and there does not seem to be a ready source for these wigs here in the US. In Japan, a standard "chomage" wig (samurai/lord) will cost about $6000. The alternative would be a wig using a rubber base rather them custom copper base. These rubber base wigs run about $200.

Are you looking to use this on stage or film? Or is it for re-enactment / living history?

For the stage a Rubber Head can be effective. On film - perhaps not.

    Hope this info helps

  • @Nickadinoable My apologies -- my intent was not to 'show off' but rather to simply be informative.

  • @narukami7 i have already known that. no need to make a huge paragraph on how much you know about it..

  • @Nickadinoable

There were originally women in kabuki but they had problems with prostitution and the shogun started cracking down on them. So they removed all women from kabuki and it became all male...then the government started to give them pressure again because of homosexuals.

  • @bumiperdikan10 i really appreciate for your help, i need wig

  • @Nickadinoable Indeed so. Actually, Kabuki was started by a woman (Okuni) and woman were the sole performers (Onna Kabuki) until the Bakfu realized the women were just as popular off stage as on and so banned them from performing.

Here in the US, where theatre departments have more woman than men, the woman often take male roles. In this video Kampei is being performed by a woman.

You might enjoy The Kabuki Theatre by Earl Ernst (ISBN:0-8248-0319-1) still the source authority on kabuki.

  • well considering you know soo much about kabuki.. oh wait your not japanese and i'm half of it!

    :)

soo if you knew soo much about it you would know that for hundereds of yearts, girls or femals for the matter weren't aloud to be in kabuki plays at all. :)
