Cover: Equinoxe Part 7 extended version, Jean Michel Jarre

My cover version of Equinoxe 7 starts out as a regular cover - ie. not an exact replica (I generally like to make my own versions) but it follows the concept of the original song quite closely.

But then - about 6:20 into the video - I do a little improvisation based on the nice "Equinoxe groove" that's going on at that moment. A Jarre-trained ear might hear a hint of Jarre's "Arpegiator" from Concerts in China in there. Luckily for you, YouTube has a max limit of 10 minutes per video, because I could go on like that forever. :-)

I was quite surprised when I learned that Jarre himself linked to this video in his personal blog at http://aerojarre.blogspot.com/2008/07/cover-guys.html and added it to the favourites on his YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/jeanmicheljarre !

I had my doubts whether adding my own ideas and improvisations to this great piece was the right thing to do, or if it would be compared to letting a kid with some paint try to improve the original "Mona Lisa"... ;-)

Now I know the answer to that! :-) As a self-taught amateur/aspiring musician and a long-time fan of Jarre's work (it was actually Jarre's music that made me so interested in music, synthesizers and keyboards in the first place), such an approval from Jarre really means a lot to me.

That Jarre thinks my version of Equinoxe 7, with my own musical ideas blended into the mix, is good enough that he not only liked it, but liked it so much that he wanted to tell the world about it, is so nice. I'm not fluent enough in English to express exactly just how nice that is. But it is very very nice. :-)

So thank you, Jean Michel. I'm glad you like my version of your music. :-)

I remember as a kid loving Def Leppard but was curious what came on late late night radio in Arlington Texas and KNON was playing this on late night Saturdays along with CLASS X!!! Then a few weeks later Jarre did the Houston Laser light concert and it stopped traffic like crazy hahahaha!
