Catch Me Chapter 10

Its all he could afford for a car, but he loved it anyway. That thing was his baby. He opened the car door with a creak and walked over to be and engulfed me in a breath taking hug. Happy birthday He whispered in my ear. Chills went through my body. Ive learned to get used to that feeling. Ive also gotten used to ignore them. It kinda sucks that a boy I met just over a month ago remembers my birthday, and yet my own parents dont. He opened up my car door and he drove me to school. It was silent for awhile before he decided to break it. So, whatcha get? I looked at him confused. Huh? He laughed at me. Typical Joe. Thats all he knows how to do, is laugh. What did you get? For you birthday? I looked out my window. I was embarrassed that my parents forgot. He knew how screwed up my life was already, but I didnt like to flaunt it. Oh, right. He continued to stare at me and wait for my response. Uhm, theyre gonna give me my stuff after school. I swiftly lied. Its not necessarily a lie. Because it could still happen..
But I shouldve known better then to try and lie to him. He can read me like a kindergarten book. We pulled into the school and he stopped the car. Neither of us got out he just sat and stared at me. They forgot. He said it more as a statement then a question, because he already knew the answer. I felt tears brimming my eyelids, but of course they didnt fall. Joe still has yet to see me cry, just like everyone else. He pulled me into a tight embrace as I nodded we just sat like that until there was a hard knock on the window on his side of the car. I turned around to see a very angry David knocking furiously on my window. Typically, Joe stays calm as I start to freak out. When I reach to open the door Joe locks it so that I cant get out. I look at him like hes crazy when he rolls down the window. May I help you? Joe says to David as if theyve never met before. Yeah, Jonas you can let my girlfriend the hell out of your car and never speak to her again. Everytime David threatens Joe like that a wave of pain runs through my body. Im always scared that Joes going to get scared of David and run away. So Im always prepared for Joe to just randomly stop speaking to me one day at school. Im sorry, but were having a conversation here. Could you wait a couple seconds? Joe says politely and sarcastically at the same time. I never understand how he keeps his cool like that.

JOES POV
Davids face is engulfed with rage as he reaches his hand into my car and hits the unlok button on Lexis side of the car. He abruptly opens the car door and pulls her by the arm and drags her out of the car. I heard her whimper, and thats when I was taken out of my trance. I slam my door open and speed walk over to him. He was holding onto her arm and whispering something in her ear. She was struggling to pull away, and her eyes were filling with fear with every word that he spoke. I walked over to them and ripped his hands off of her. No one touches her like that. Ive made sure of it as much as possible since I found out what he does to her. Davids hand started raising at an impossible speed, and I was getting ready for the hit. He punches me square in the jaw and I stumble backward. I didnt realize that Lexi was right behind me until I stumbled into her arms and she tried to catch me. She was very thin, but shes a lot stronger then she looks. Volleyball training really catches up to you, I guess.

I regained my balance and looked back at her. She was still holding onto my shoulders from behind, making sure I was steady. You okay? I whispered. It came out much raspier then my normal voice is, because I had yet to ragain my breath from the hit. As soon as she nodded I felt his arms grab her hands and tear them off of my shoulders. Thats when I lost it. Get your fucking hands off of her. I said in a normal voice and ran at him full speed as he walked across the parking lot, still gripping her wrists. I through myself onto him. It was like all the hatred I had been holding in toward him just built up and I couldnt take it anymore. All three of us went flying on the hard concrete. David landed directly on Lexi, and I immediately regretted what I did. He groaned and rolled around, still ontop of her trying to catch his breath. I forcefully pushed him off of her and grabbed her face in my hands. Her eyes were closed, and she didnt look conscious. Lex. Lexi, come on. Are you okay? Her eyes slowly opened and she let out a weak smile. Next time your in the mood for wrestling, let me know ahead of time so I can get out of the ring. I couldnt help but laugh and pulled her into a tight hug.
