wooooaah, I'm sorry buddy, I used to admire Kirk Hammett when I was a lot younger, but there are sooo many better guitarists than him, and fyi Shawn Lane is one of the best guitarists ever imo, - listen to gray pianos flying. That and no matter what style your playing, diversity in tone colour using this technique can be so effective, whether its metal or jazz.

metal is very well know for having a distinct and constant sound so it is stupid to say kirk hammet doesn't use it because he wouldn't, and also shawn lane may be a better song writer but he is definitely not a better guitarist, and even if he is it is by very little.

I'm referring to all the average electric guitarists like kirk hammett and others who just play 1 way. Obviously GOOD guitarists like shawn lane and guthrie govan use this already. Maybe you should have actually checked my profile before making your 'assumptions'.... douchebag
