@smurfieboo The birds are just too frail to have sex. They have to artificially inseminate the female birds with semen obtained by putting a probe up the male's rectum and shocking him so he ejaculates.

how do you reproduce non sexually?

understandable, but unrealistic at times

I am not a vegetarian, but Foer is an amazing writer and has been my favorite author ever since his first novel came out. I just have to read this book by default simply because he wrote it.

@xBoilerUpx - Are you defending the claim that giving animals genetically modified corn, growth hormones, and the NON-CLINICAL use of antibiotics isn't unethical or a health concern & not just for the people who consume the meat but also the animals being killed? Is it healthy for 7 year old girls to have breast development 4-5 years earlier than usual or more resilient forms of E. Coli being found in thousands of pounds of ground beef in the past year? I agree with Jonathan, bred to be sick.

@xBoilerUpx - Last year the HSUS (Humane Society of the United States) conducted an investigation into SmithField Foods in NC, the WORLDS largest pork processor and producer; 27 million pigs a year. 27 million pigs and not a single veterinarian on the site. It wasn't until the public found out what was going on that SmithField started to make changes. Also, his numbers like 90th percentile, even 99th percentile, are valid because only 8 - 10 companies control a majority of the meat we consume.
