In the 1960s, they were called communes. Today, they're known as intentional communities. Some are spiritually-based. Others focus on environmental concerns. But all believe in sharing. Twin Oaks, located two hours south of Washington DC, is one of the oldest intentional communities in the United States. VOA's Susan Logue paid a visit.

Actual shanemacc is right. I'm reading Marx in University at the moment. I wouldn't have believed a word of Marxism before I entered College. Y'know, cos of the Soviet Union and what not.

But, apparently Twin oaks is more what Marx had in mind. What Marx said and what Lenin/Stalin/Mao did, couldn't be more different. Like night and day.

You obviously have no idea what you're talking about. Name a communist system in history with 'minimal or absolutely no state', communism REQUIRES a powerful state that can steal and control the production of goods. The 'sharing morality of a nice little village' is a total lie, a commune operating in a free-market based on voluntarism is the perfect example of a 'nice little village' however in communism that is not even legal.
