Cornell MacNeil (born 24 September 1922 in Minneapolis, Minnesota) A true Verdi baritone with the darkness of a bass and the ringing top of a dramatic tenor. We no longer hear voices like this singing Verdi. Dark voices with no core/squillo are just as bad as bright voices with only core/squillo, but no darkness to balance it. MacNeil had chiaroscuro. Sorry about the slight skip at the end.

@ElSalvador50 Yeah, but I am not sure Hines was heavier. I guess you would have to hear them both live. lol. Both were HUGE voices. I always was disappointed that Hines got woofy early on. I think Mardones was pretty heavy.

@MrCafiero I agree completely, I only made that comparison because you were comparing his voice with basses with another user.

@ElSalvador50 Ruffo. Hines was a bass so it is hard to compare. MacNeil had more squillante than Hines.

@MrCafiero The only voice I can think of that was "heavier" than MacNeil's was Jerome Hines

@saiserieht yes -you are absolutely correct -- the wobble isn't evident yet --- he sounds like a youthful artist here!
