You're right, some people do want to produce magic themselves, and those people can find magic shops, books, and other magicians who will be willing to show them for very little or free. You can get most magic tricks from books in the library. If you earnestly want to learn magic, you will but not in public forums. Remember, "Once you tell them the secret, you will be nothing to them, the secret is nothing, the trick you use it for is everything." -Christian Bale, The Prestige

I think i know, but i'm not telling!!!!!

Think of when you go to a show. You know that crazy adrenilin (excuse my spelling) high you get when you see a great trick and don't know how or what just happened? THAT is what we're protecting. If we tell you how it's done, you lose that. YOU, the spectator. Sure, there are a few people who still appreciate the trick, but it just doesn't have the same feeling as when you didn't know the secret.

The reason we don't tell people isn't so they will falsely belive there is 'real' magic. We don't tell them because it ruins the experience for the viewer as well as the preformer.

the floating table trick was awesome o.o
People dont want to know to spoilt the magic, some peopel want to know to produce the magic themselves, and take MORE people on that journey you mentioned. I certainly want to know.

some people just want to know and not perform, even if not spoiling magic. it is not good to tell them too...

Why not? if they beleive it for a moment, and then you tell them, its fun, and a learning experience.
if they beleive, then ask, and you refuse, it just seems jerkish, theyll look elsewhere, and no one learns anything.

because it kills the magic you just created. a good magician is not stupid enough to sink the his own boat ! I never reveal to people wanting to just know because this is not how I want to show my magic. explanation is no magic anymore and should not be part of a show or after the show. think about other magicians who don't wanna tell people ! if they use the same tricks than you, would they be glad to hear thair spectatros say "yes, I've seen tht, I know !". Seriously, don't be selfish.

there is always a way to introduce the "no I won't tell you", plus, whatever they may think, it is your decision. if you're not able to tell them no, this is weak. most people I've told some trick were really sad... like.. "is that it ? what ? this sucks..."
seriously, this problem we're discussing is very complicated and is not as simple as you may think. just by respect for other magicians you should refuse to tell people.
