It just shows you, the studio new its business. Everything was so professonal, with the best in the business working on a project.

@ciroalb3 and apple2dance04: Part of the swingy sound is because an uncredited (for contractual reasons) Jimmy Dorsey and his Orchestra was sweetening the RKO orchestra. Dorsey bandmember Fud Livingston did the arrangements.

Gershwin died in July '37 after completing the film. Wikipedia says he wrote the orchestral underscore for the film, so I guess that's that, but I suspect a studio arranger did the first part before it becomes jazzier.
