@gjjeep I loved that review. That is exactly what I love about Idina! She understands,&feels what shes singing,&gets the emotion across!I think she sounds incredible.
I think Idina herself summed it up perfectly when she said@ her 'tweet up' that people now are expecting pitch perfect performances, when really, that is not what musical theatre is about. Sure, everyone wants to hear a good performance, but I know for me, I'd prefer the emotion from Idina's singing, to a souless, pitch perfect one.
I read a review from OCRegister which is spot on."Menzel bubbles over with an urgency and edge which, coupled with a unique ability to sell the story behind the lyrics, makes her renditions of the show-stopping numbers unforgettable. She proves the old adage that a great musical-theater performer doesn't have to be technically perfect in order to get the job done; in fact, perfection is often the enemy. Like other Broadway greats, Menzel can cut to the essence of a song, sacrificing precision ."
@MissingSJB Keep in mind.. this is the finale of her show, after singing an entire set without any breaks. And she sounds great, so i'm not sure what you mean by struggling... She hits the "bring me down" and the final note dead on. Just because she chooses to opt out of the high F doesn't mean she can't do it, she's just smart and doesn't risk cracking (which would be very easy to do after over an hour of singing..)
I love Idina, so please don't think I'm bashing her, but I don't know why she's keeping the key change on the last verse/ "flying" portion. Every recording I've heard of her tour, she sounds great until the key change, where she's obviously straining and struggling for the notes, and it never sounds good.

adding to my post: Why dissect her performance...listen and enjoy! It's her ability to feel the song that makes her extra special.
