Corner Soul from The Clash´s Sandinista!
In my opinion, one of the most beautiful Clash songs, and (as much of their work) grossly forgotten and ignored.
True genius shining through from especially Joe, but the rest of the band too. I like to just put this on, lean back and enjoy. Absolutely beautiful.

Lyrics:

"Is the music of grove skin rock
Soaked in the diesel of war boys war?
Blood, black gold and the face of a judge
Is the music calling for a river of blood?

Beat the drums tonight, Alphonso
Spread the news all over the grove
The big meeting has decided
That total was must burn on the grove

Does it mean I should take my machete
To chop my way through the path of life?
Does it mean I should run with the dog pack
Is that the way to be the one to survive?

Never need a gun says Tai Chi
Move on up to dragon snaps his tail
Fall back on still waters
Hammer with his eye on the nail

Spread the word tonight please, Sammy
They're searching everyhouse on the grove
Don't go alone now, Sammy!
The wind has blown away the corner soul

Tell the news for me, Sammy
They're searching every place on the grove
But don't go down alone now, Sammy!
The wind has blown away the corner soul

Is the music calling for a river of blood?"

RIP Joe

  • I know what your sayimng m8 but this was all post punk not the traditional punk- everyone is different i'm sure some people preffered this but for me there earlier work was much better

  • You are of course correct.

Personally I love absolutely all of their work and could never decide what album I like the most.

From punk to country to jazz to rap to gospel, The Clash truly are the greatest band of all time.

  • Somebody got murdered was one of the best songs on this album, i still prefer their first album because i like the punk sound, this album was as far away from punk as it is-infact i'm suprised people say they are punk most of their stuff is to soft- but still a great band

  • I wouldn´t call it soft as much as musically evolved.

The Clash were always punk, because being a punk isn´t about the music, it´s about the attitude, the style, the ideas, the idealism. And in that The Clash always excelled.

You can play punk music without even being punk, and you can be punk without eveer playing punk music.

  • if you like the songs on Sandinista find a way to download the clash at bonds casino new york 1982.

Sandinista songs sound a lot better live.

  • Some do indeed. Especially Somebody Got Murdered, the guitar heavy live version is many times better than the recorded one.

But some, like Charlie Don´t Surf, are still better recorded.

But yes, I´ll try and find a bootleg from the Sandinista! era.

  • @buderick23 The 70s Punk scene was all about variety & evolution, not strict, rigid, definitions. It was about starting with the basic 60s Garage influences and going from there, leading to one of the most creative periods in rock'n'roll history. The limits & rules that modern punk "purists" believe in didn't exist then, which was a good thing, I think.

  • this song moves me in an emotional way few songs do..even tho i don't know what the music of groveskin rock was or is.

  • @AppoCC119 Sandinista pretty much covered all those genres. That's quite an impressive 3-record album!

  • This song deserves 27 Million Views, not 27 Thousand

  • this song always pops in my head every now and again . often sing all the words .almost

  • From my 30th-anniversary tribute to Sandinista!:

    amazon.com/review/R38PDDLCW4FGOA/

The injection of vocal estrogen courtesy Mick Jones' then-partner Ellen Foley does have the otherwise-rare effect of rendering a band best thought of hitherto as deserving of comradely fraternal handshakes, or perhaps, after a Red wine or three, Brezhnev-meets-Honecker cheekpecks, positively squeezeworthy.

  • @AppoCC119 like Suicide. no guitars no drummers no need ffor them its all mindstate.

  • Sandinista is my fav Clash album and if you want to put a label on the music I would call it Revolution Rock.

  • @tctcetb

Consider it done - big thumbs up! Album of incredible scope and depth - almost too much so....

First band I ever saw live, aged 13. Deaf for a week!

  • reggae punk? Buen tema, no se como puede tener tan pocas visitas.
