Wild orcas live between 60-80 years of age, on average. In captivity, the average life span drops to just 20 years of age.

In the wild, orcas remain with their family pods for their entire lives. In captivity, orcas are separated from their families: in capture or to be sold to other facilities. Captures are brutal events [where as many as five whales have died] in process.

Wild orcas swim up to 30 miles an hour & travel about 100 miles a day. Each orca pod has about a 700 square mile range they live in. In an aquarium tank, orcas can only travel as far as the walls and back around, in circles, all day and all night.

You can go home after the show but they cannot!

So many orcas were caught from the USA in the 1960's-1970's that entire generations of whales disappeared. Now, wild orcas in the US are endangered and will probably never bounce back to their original numbers.
