I initially thought the noise was the ring and pinion because after I removed the rear driveshaft I turned the yoke by hand and heard a clicking noise. I drained the pumpkin, took the cover off, and there were no metal pieces inside. The noise is coming from the locker area. It's hard to see in the video but the locker seems to get stuck and then clicks through. It's almost like the locker is not fully disengaged. I can slide the pressure plate (don't know real name) left and the locker will engage.

  • i think its a wear and tear deal. after awhile i guess the 03 develops this sound. when i bought mine i noticed it to and thought it to be the lockers. ive talked to other jeep owners and its common. but nothing bad really.

  • Turned out to be a bad pinion bearing (near the yoke)
