No plugin, just filling the canvas with the flat material and using the 2.5D brushes with RGB on. I think everyone forgets about ZBrush's 2.5D heritage and just work with the 3D tools.
It's great b/c you can do 2D concept in ZBrush, create a zsphere base right beside your sketch and go then go to town sculpting on the adaptive skin.
Or you can polypaint on a plane to get "canvas" rotation like Painter, which is REALLY cool but my system slows down when the plane resolution gets too high.

Damn, that is sweet! I had no idea you could "sketch" in Zbrush. It that a plugin? Now I must try this myself :)
