**WATCH IN HQ**

This was my first time driving CA-17, a windy mountain highway through the Santa Cruz Mountains for those of you who don't know, linking San Jose and Santa Cruz. This video shows the entire length of the highway in both directions. The first half is going southbound on a Friday afternoon, and the second half is going northbound on an early (and very foggy) Sunday morning. My car is an '02 Chevy Impala, and the video was sped up by a factor of 6. Videos were taken 10/09/09 and 10/11/09, respectively. The song is "Shine on You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-5)" by Pink Floyd.

  • Wow, an old OLD car that you pass at 8:08 - 8:09 !! Kinda looks like he has only one tail-light, too!! |c:

  • Yeah, he was going to slow LOL!

  • **too slow

  • I've heard you mention this route many times-- now I see what you mean. Geez. Another reason I prefer the flat-no-curves "nothing" here in Texas! (c: About how long is this (in miles)...??

  • Haha flat is boring ;) There was actually a car that flipped going south on the "Glenwood Curves" section this morning, we were NAILED with record-setting storms all day today. The official length is 26.49mi, and the speed limit is 50mph on the windy parts. It takes about 25-30 minutes to traverse the whole pass.

  • What was the detourat Lark Ave. for? LOL! Nice job.

  • Starbucks!

  • "Santa's Village Road" Sounds sooo wrong for the southern Silicon Valley. LOL!

  • Thanks for this video! -great memories of my journies from Saratoga to the beaches around Santa Cruz aka 1978-88. Now live in midwest.

  • Aww, I know that freeway well. I live in Sacramento, and my mom lives down there. I've driven that highway many times, and a lot of them were on an Amtrak bus. It's a pain in the butt during rush hour traffic.

  • dude thiz video is relaxing lol jk

  • perfect tune for this nice video

  • Cool video man, perfect soundtrack to go with it. i always get a kick out of when i pass summit rd heading towards los gatos and seeing "fresh" car parts strewn along the side of the road. i also recall the median being hit so many times that a big hole finally got punched through. 50 mph means 50 mph lol!

  • Los Gatos my town

  • My exit is at :53 to Camden Avenue.

Nice video thanks for sharing this
