nice, but there is an easier way to centre objects:

press v to select the 'select' tool

cmd + a to select all and then the normally greyed out tools at the top will become active, the first two sets of 3 boxes are the ones that your interested in (hover for description)

Click on align-vertical-centres and align-horizontal-centres and your object will centred on the canvas. you can repeat this for how ever many objects you have, including text, rasterised layers and vector layers.
