Today I received a package in the mail, it was send to me by Apple and it contained my 29 euro Snow Leopard update. Which is dead cheap when you compare it to the regular 129 euro / dollar OS X upgrade Apple was charging consumers in the past.
The Leopard OS was the last OS to support PPC machines and Snow Leopard is x86/intel only.
Rosetta wasn't installed by default and I had to select it manually as I do have some older PPC software I am still using. The only thing not working was Crossover Games the rest does function without any problems.
The install went very smoothly and the new OS feels a lot quicker. Safari is much snappier.
The experience - and increase in user response time - compares to changing over from Windows Vista to Windows 7.
I say, if you own an intel Mac it may be very worth installing the Snow Leopard OS X !
That's a shame. Well thank god Leopard will of course be supported for a long time to come.
You still could / should take it back to Apple though as the device does not perform like it should!

Thanks for the quick reply. For me, the experience is the opposite: 10.5.6 is perfect, S.L. introduced few annoyances ( major one is comp. wont wake up after sleep, and every now and then boot freezes). I tried different installs as well, including clean ones, so no third party programs. Well. I'm fine like this for now, 25 pounds shorter, though.
Vrolijke Kerst Dagen!

Dutch - guilty!
Your problems with SL are strange.
I did have some 'weird pausing' with browsing on 10.5 and on snow Leopard this all disappeared. SL is all in all a super solid experience for me.
Perhaps there are some programs installed that cause a blotched upgrade? You could try a fresh install of SL as this works too...
And if you also experience some the problems on 10.5 you may want to take the Laptop back to Apple as your troubles may be an overheating/hardware issue :(

Hi, Mark. I was sure you were Dutch:)) Then your last name confirmed it. Anyway, I have the same laptop ( aluminium Mac Book), I also upgraded to S.L., few times, and I had quite some trouble: the laptop does not wake up fine after sleeping/hibernating, sometimes the boot fails, the wireless card is not always responsive and kernel panics do show up rarely. Currently, I am back to 10.5.6, which i by far more stable an quicker. What are your experiences with SL?

I don't have a Mac computer but you get the new operating system and that's cool.
