This tutorial covers the use of the Magnetic Lasso tool and Quick Mask to remove a background. Along with importing your new image into After Effects with preserved transparency.

  • great tutorial. nice work

  • Thanks!

  • Excellent tutorial, told me exactly what I needed to know, thanks.

  • Thank you. I am really glad that it helped you out.

  • So what is the advantage of using a mask compared to just selecting with the other tools?

It seems like you are basically doing the same thing...

  • I personally feel that I can get a much better masking control inside photoshop than I can with the pen tool inside after effects. In the end you just need to find the best way to accomplish what you need. And I just happen to have more photoshop experience.

  • The pen tool is the best! to get a perfect mask.

  • You sounded nervous?

  • Hey dude, I Have a Picture in photoshop , with about 5 layers, but when I import it in After effect as a composition, I can only see one .. ?? I saved the file in PSD. I had no problems with my other files before, but this one is not working .. what am i doing wrong ??

  • A better way to get the selection would be using the pen tool and then creating a selection use the path you created. You'd get cleaner edges and more control of the selection imo.

But otherwise this method works well enough also

  • great! thanks!

  • THANK YOU i needed this!!!! :P

  • wow really good tutorial nice job

  • How do you use the Magnetic Lasso tool to crop out an image and place the croped image into another setting without it disappearing behide the setting?

    help please
