This video is a multi-purpose one in that I have wanted to upload a Hamish Moorre track for some time and I have liked this one for a very long time, and Drew Clegg is a great poet, speaker and a lovely man forbye. I used to play this track when I worked in an Edinburgh hostelry well known to many Gaels. Drew Clegg used to visit the establishment and he knew Harvey very well. Harvey " died peacefully, laying in bed, with his spectacles on, and his pen and wee notebook for his poems laying open by his side" on26th January this year , the day after Burns Night. The talk given by Drew appears on the Stanza website and was given 22 March 2009. I hope you will enjoy it all.
THINKAN AN DAEAN
Atween the blink o' the ee an the harn
Atween the seean an the thinkan,
Time and space whummelt in the swee.
Dykes rise,
Fields, and rigs nae pleuchd syne,
rummel intill the lift.
Gowd-licket cloods
Aw black staunan aiks,
Awe the gap atween seean an thinkan,
Thinkan an Daean
That oor word micht come
Speiritan oot o' thon gap
Speiran at the yird an a' its cronies
Orr ain word biggit that oo maun tak it
An yoakan it, let it flee
As the finger lifts an the air
Flees oot the chaunter
Chaumer pipes for dauncean
An War ains for bleedin
Auld words for speakan
An new words for readan:
There's the chink atween thinkan and daean.
