This is the fourth installment of Inside ECU. This episode looks at how East Carolina University is addressing the national epidemic of obesity. The issue is being researched from all angles and in multiple departments. From the childhood obesity side, well speak with faculty and clinicians in the Pediatric Healthy Weight Clinic. Also, Dr. Joseph Houmard from the College of Health and Human Performance will talk about evaluating where we carry our excess weight and ways to get rid of it safely. In addition, well talk about some preventative options for those who dont want to fall into those categories. And finally, exercise is part of getting healthy, but the other half of the health equation is eating correctly. Dr. Sarah Colby in the College of Human Ecology breaks down whats in that food we love, as well as the appropriate serving and portion sizes for eating. Dr. Colby will also show us how to read food and nutrition labels to make sure we know what we are putting in our bodies.
