159833, 153361, and 150260 leave platform 7 at Crewe for a quick 'fettle' before forming a Bridgend service. I Pity the fools who went to Bridgend in the 153/150!!

  • the front train was a 158...it must have been annoying for the passengers in the 150 and 153 to know that the people in the first 2 coaches where in a nice quiet air conditioned train up front! lol

  • I know what you mean, but the average punter just sees a box with seats in. If I had the choice I'd go for the 158, or the 153 at a (deasperate, last gasp) push, but Joe Public just wants to get to where they're going.

I must point out that my intro does mention that "I pity the fools that went to Bridgend in a 153/150!"

I personally am not a fan of 2nd gen units, but the 158s are a bit special.

  • coool!! that must of been going 2 manchester via stoke and macclesfield (which is where i live). the wilmslow line must have been shut.

    gd vid m8!!!!!!!!

  • No mate- It was going to the carriage shed for a fuel & water top-up, and left for Bridgend in S.Wales an hour later. Cheers for commenting!

  • To be fair, ATW have done an excellent job in refreshing their units now. 150/153's are MUCH more pleasant compared to what they used to be! And all the ex-FNW 154's have now left for EMT or FGW last week. Cheers

  • I agree, but they're no substitute for loco haulage. or a Class 120 'cross country' DMU!

  • Did a Crewe to Cardiff run about a month ago. Instead of the usual Class 175, the service ended up as 3 Class 150 units coupled together (forming a Manchester Piccadilly to Cardiff Central service) - uncomfortable wasn't the word.

  • oh right....fairdoos.

    no probs anyime.

  • Oh no i agree, as I remember the days of Class 37 with 4 carriages on the North Wales coast, and 3 car 101's down my line, the conwy valley!

    Happy Days!

  • What are DMUs being used for on such long haul services? Mind you, multiple units always seem to be the thing for passenger trains, nowadays:-((! Again a bad specification (the DfT deserve a bash for this yet again!). Yes, a 37 or 33 would fit the bill better as things are (and would be smoother for the passengers, I'm sure)! All nice to watch as I rarely get out nowadays!
