I was inspired to do this song by one of the patients at the nursing home where I work. Whenever she asks for assistance for something, and the help is not immediately forthcoming, she begins to break out in song, and this is the song she sings! She's a little black lady, and the way she sings this song is just so evocative, it takes you back to the days of slavery when you could probably hear the slaves in the field singing the old spirituals for all they were worth in despair and hope all at the same time. "Oh Lord, You know," she sings, "I have no Friend like You!" It's what I like to call the voice of the ages, and there is no way I could reproduce it with any credibility, so I didn't even try. I just sing it the way I know how to sing it. Anyway, I hope it's a blessing to someone.

This world is not my home,
I'm just a passing thru,
My treasures are laid up
Somewhere beyond the blue;
The angels beckon me from
Heaven's open door,
And I can't feel at home
In this world anymore.

Chorus
O Lord, you know,
I have no friend like you,
If heaven's not my home
Then Lord, what will I do;
The angels beckon me from
Heaven's open door,
And I can't feel at home
In this world anymore.

My Savior's set me free
And that's one thing I know
I long to be with Him
When from this world I go
I know He'll take me through
Though I am weak and poor
And I can't feel at home
In this world anymore.

(Chorus)

Just over in glory land
We'll live eternally,
The saints on ev'ry hand
Will be shouting victory,
Our songs of sweetest praise
Will resound forevermore,
And I can't feel at home
In this world anymore.

(Chorus)

  • I can't imagine having no hope for better times and looking forward only to death for things to be better. In a life that hard, Jesus must be everything. As much as I love him, my love can't compare to that of the truly down trodden.

  • @deezynar Well, from my perspective, death is definitely not what I'm looking 4ward 2. The most this life has 2 offer is temporary at best, 2 say the least! I'm with Paul, if there is no resurrection, I am of all men most miserable, and Solomon was right, all is vanity and vexation of spirit. If I live 2 be an old man, death, I'm sure, will come as a relief, but it's not what I'm looking forward 2. Eternal life in heaven and the earth made new where there is no death, now that's hope!

  • @guitmartiman

Us believers are looking forward to something we can't have until we die.

  • @deezynar Meanwhile, we are as strangers in a strange land, hence, this world is not my home.

  • Well done! Life is beautiful.
