Bobby Parker in Paris performing his version of Monk's tune "Straight No Chaser". Bobby Parker-gtr, Dane Paul Russel-harp, Steven Charles Cecil-piano, Dion Clay-Drums, Ron Kronz-Sax, Andrew Padula-bass. Lionel Hampton Club in Paris, France.
I guess not too many bluesmen of his age have a Theolonius Monk song in their repertoire :-) But Bobby Parker is different - even now at 73 . When he was young the used to be the guitarist of the Paul Williams Band (the sax-player who wrote HUCKLEBUCK - which was derived from CHARLIE Parker's NOW IS THE TIME btw). He is recording a new CD which will be out in 2011.
