The idea of "just drilling for oil" is as stupid as saying "just print more money".

50 years? That is within the lifetimes of most of us. And once that oil is gone, it is gone, baby, gone.

It's real simple, the #1 current export from this country is fuel, from oil. So,we must have a surplus, correct? So the whole theory of bring down the price with supply is pure crap. Why is the price going up?Oil from the keystone pipeline would be for refining to fuel to ship abroad and keep our prices high.Real simple.

@CollinMaessen Just buy the June issue of the National Geographic and you will find it all in there. Including the quotes if you don't believe me.
Gawsh ya got me! The Leaf, the Volt- please forgive me for not differentiating between the POS cars that nobody wants to drive (except nuts with agendas such as yours). And as for your "evidence"- you know what they say: there are "lies, damn lies, and statistics". 67% growth of practically nothing is how much? And how many BILLIONS in gov & tax subsidies did it take to accomplish that? You can't argue the fact that the costs of your agenda when implemented would destroy the global economy.

@FlatEarthHypothesis If it is your argument, know your subject.
And if these cars don't sell, why does the leaf get sold out the instant pre-orders become available? Mind you, these customers haven't even test-driven the car yet. Also every Volt that became available has been sold.
It looks like you haven't read my source, look it up, there you can see it is a sustained growth year after year.
Also about those job claims and that it would destroy the economie: bit. ly/mQUd8G

The key facts you ignore (intentionally?) are that Solyndra BURNED through $500 Mil. in just one year. GE and GM receive MASSIVE federal subsidies (0 taxes in 2010) to support failed joke projects like the "Leaf" and other products which make NO SENSE. Again, here is a key: until we have a major scientific breakthrough in generating/storing electricity, these products WON'T BE VIABLE!! The dollars per watt is just too expensive contrasted to coal and oil. Wishing otherwise is a pipe dream.

@FlatEarthHypothesis I take it you haven't read my sources on the viability of solar and why Solyndra failed?
in 2010 the solar industry grew by 67% in the U.S., and generates exports worth 1.8 billion. Solyndra itself said stiff competition was a reason for its bankruptcy. It couldn't cope with the 42% price drop in the market: nyti. ms/rcCqQG
And do you have any idea what you are talking about? The Leaf is a car made by Nissan, a company from Japan. It has nothing to do with GE and GM.

Normally I wouldn't give a socialist like you a second thought... but if Crowder is guilty of glossing over the truth, you sir are using black tar and a paint roller! You simply parrot out the standard liberal lines claiming that somehow green energy is not only viable, but that it also is 'competitive' with fossil fuels in terms of cost and volume of energy production. The "enormous strides" you claim have been made still left e-cars and windmills a bankrupt industry! Try & google "Solyndra"

@FlatEarthHypothesis I'm a social liberal, which is something completely different than a socialist.
I have added the source for my claim that in certain cases solar is already competitive to the description of this video. I didn't just make it up.
Electric cars aren't bankrupt, if it was it wouldn't be a growing market and companies wouldn't be bringing out so many new models: bit. ly/nJABG5
And the solar industry is also far from bankrupt, Solyndra fell due to competition: bit. ly/pPXxVY
