Our Car Trouble. So from Santa Fe, New Mexico until Eugene, Oregon our car, a 2007 Honda Fit, had a weird problem. It would get stuck in not-quite-in-Park and the key would get stuck in the 1 position (where the radio turns on but nothing else), which meant the car couldn't turn on and the key couldn't come out of the ignition. Needless to say, this was an annoying and perplexing problem. Later on it would have difficulty moving from gear to gear like in this clip. Thousands of miles later, at a Honda dealership in Eugene, we discovered the problem was a two inch chunk of asphalt in the transmission. Thanks a lot, New Mexico. May 2009. www.ourgreenamerica.org.

  • Did you have to replace the transmission?

  • @PeterGriffin4200 No, luckily they just found it and took it out (along with some other stones and such). End of problem. I'm glad none of it jumped into the gears. That would have been the end of the transmission.
